Thank you for your interest in becoming an effective teacher through our residency program!
If you have questions before starting your application, please feel free to ask a question here.
If you are in college but not yet a senior, consider applying to one of our summer fellowships instead.
All teacher residency applicants must have:
Any undergraduate Bachelor’s degree or anticipated graduation prior to the start of the residency year
An undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
A US citizenship, permanent residency or DACA status.

Fall Selection Season
Deadline: November 12, 2023
Selection Weekend (in-person): December 8-9, 2023
Acceptance Deadline: January 5, 2024
Spring Selection Season
Deadline: March 3, 2024
Virtual Selection Day: March 22, 2024
Acceptance Deadline: April 2, 2024
Steps to Becoming an MTR Resident Teacher

Attend a virtual or in-person MTR Event
Ask a question or let us know you’re interested
Sign up to chat with a staff member

2. Apply
Complete the written application, which includes your resume, GPA & unofficial academic transcript, and written essays.

3. Recommendation
List two different references on application
References will answer several questions and write a recommendation for you
Keep tabs on their completion status

4. Video Interviews
After submitting application, check your email for a link to record a video interview
Video will be reviewed after application is evaluated

5. Selection Weekend
If qualified, you will be invited to final round of interviews at Selection Weekend
Selection Weekend consists of interviews, teaching samples and case studies

6. Offers and Decisions
Selection Weekend attendees will be notified of their application decision the following week

You will receive information on the Praxis Subject Assessment
Complete other on-boarding tasks
Pack up for move-in late May
Prepare for Resident Orientation starting the first week of June
